To continue to build bridges of cultural mediation between cinema and people's lives, we are opening a new line of work with the University of Santiago, this time with the Red Cross - USC Chair, dependent on the Faculty of Psychology.

This Chair is focused on improving the quality of life of the elderly. Each year, it focuses its efforts on a specific field within this theme, and in 2024, this field will be diverse in the elderly.

We know that audiovisual creation, as a mirror and window to society, is a powerful tool for education and reflection. For this reason, in this 21st edition, Curto inaugurates a Special Red Cross - USC Chair Award, with a prize of € 1,500.00, to recognise pieces with outstanding content in diversity in the elderly. The jury will be composed of:

 - Onésimo Juncos-Rabadán. Deputy director of the institutional chair Red Cross - USC. He develops his research activity in studying psychological ageing and dementias, coordinating different projects and publishing more than one hundred articles in impact journals. He coordinated the inter-university Máster in Psicogerontology (USC, USAL, UB, UV) and the PhD Programme Psychological Development, Learning and Health.

 - Jorge García-Marín. Professor of Sociology, former secretary of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Feminist Research and Gender Studies (CIFEX) at the University of Santiago de Compostela and current coordinator of the Master's Degree in Equality, Gender and Education. His research and teaching activity revolves around issues related to gender studies and masculinities.

 - Acacia Ojea. Artist, curator and researcher of sound practices. Trained in fine arts, electroacoustics and experimental film, she develops transversal projects linked to the sound arts, film language and the performative field.

In addition to this initiative, on 30 September, we will hold a free screening of the selected films in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Psychology, which will conclude with a colloquium with the participation of the following heads of different departments of the Psychology Degree and audiovisual creators who will talk to the students present:

Presentation: Arturo X. Pereiro (Head of the Red Cross Chair - USC).

                - Moderator: M. José Sampedro (Dean of the Faculty of Psychology).

                - Specialists: Onésimo Juncos Rabadán - Professor Emeritus Ad Honorem; Jorge García Marín - Full Professor USC; Carmen Méndez - director of the piece ‘Pura’ in competition in this section; Pela de él Álamo - director of Cortocircuito
