Supernova

A reflection on what remains and transforms us after a “great love” fails, through change and all its processes, as opposed to my own present and past life which is tied to an ever-changing gaze and the reflection of seeing myself in a self-indulgent conversation seeking forgiveness.

This documentary takes its title from a song by Terbutalina and, in the same vein, speaks of carpe diem in an inebriated and comedic tone, poking fun at clichés and dealing with issues that typically trouble young people: duty, vice, love and death. In the end, the pandemic caught us by surprise. This is a story about friends who grew up together, about the end of an era.

Rakel lives alone with her son in a council flat. Her job insecurity, together with the pressure exerted by her mother and society as a whole, will force her to explore new limits.

A girl and her mother always go hunting together. She enjoys it and is very good with guns, but her mother thinks she is not ready yet. During a hunting trip they lose the dogs, and everything starts to go wrong.

Suyin and Billy are two Chinese exchange students in Japan. During their last week there, they discover a strange television signal that seems to be talking about the end of the world and is only played at night. Both become obsessed with deciphering the message, which is in a language they have never heard before.

They meet at a motel. We don't know who they are, where they come from or what they are doing there but they can't seem to escape their demons. She is pregnant and he is about to find out. After the revelation, both will find themselves thrown into a direct confrontation, in which their irreconcilable positions will end up in conflict.

O Burato is an exercise in memory. A little poetic construction made up from scraps of past lives. Entering the underground world of the Free Party movement, it portrays a scene that usually eludes mainstream attention.
