Pilar Palomero: Opening Film and master class

Filmmaker Pilar Palomero opens Curtocircuíto with her new film La maternal after its successful premiere at the San Sebastian Festival. This screening —the second one after its world premiere— and a master class open to the public, are part of one of the festival’s most eagerly awaited special sections: "Pilar Palomero by ECAM". Both events will take place on 1 and 2 October at the Teatro Principal and the Museo de las Peregrinaciones respectively.
In 2020 Palomero released her first feature film Las niñas, in which Celia, a teenager from Zaragoza, discovers the adult world. After countless awards and prizes (nominated to 9 Goyas and winner of 4: best film, best new director, best original screenplay, and best cinematography), in 2022 Palomero released La maternal, whose protagonist is a 13-year-old girl who becomes pregnant and is admitted to a centre for teenage mothers. The film will be screened with the collaboration of ECAM, the school where the filmmaker trained and in which she mentors future talent.
Palomero's presence at Curtocircuíto highlights the festival's interest both in auteur cinema and in generating a space of visibility for films made by women.
