Film Granell: screening of restored art films

Eugenio Granell returns to the limelight in Santiago in the special session "Film Granell - The New Restoration of the Cinematographic Work of Eugenio Granell”, to be held on Sunday 2 October at 7pm at the Teatro Principal.

Between 1960 and 1980, the surrealist artist made a series of pieces called "art films", according to the term coined by filmmaker Alberte Pagán. These small and fragile films, pioneers of Spanish and Galician experimental cinema, are valuable film heritage.

Created during his exile in New York, the series is composed of short film-poems (Trompos, Middlebury, Película hecha en casa con pelota y muñeca, Casa) and films of the "cinema without a camera" kind (Invierno and Dibujo, hand-painted directly on the frame, and Lluvia, made by scratching directly on the emulsion).

The restoration work has been carried out by the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola with the collaboration of the Eugenio Granell Foundation and Filmoteca de Galicia.
