Juan Carlos Blancas will bring us closer to the aesthetics, theories and techniques of phonographic creation and field recording from his extensive experience in the field of production and sound design for audiovisual media.
A recording is, in a certain sense, a trail that allows us to access, directly or indirectly, a past “emotional, intangible and subjective” experience. Starting from this premise, Juan Carlos Blancas will approach the experimentation and put phonography in practice within the audiovisual context, taking the creation and sound design for cinematographic projects as the central concept of his workshop.
Using a creative approach to field recording, he will address theoretical aspects related to the history and methodology of the soundscape, as well as sound technicians, focusing on audio capture and signal processing systems, editing and post-production workflow.
The material recorded during the hands-on recording performed in the workshop will serve as raw material for the production of sound pieces, for which the attendees will be able to use their own equipment or use the field recording systems available for the occasion.
Juan Carlos Blancas
Juan Carlos Blancas is an expert in field recording, an activity that forms the starting point of his creative work, which lies somewhere between sound experimentation and electronic music. He has an extensive track record in different media (music, cinema, theatre, advertising, etc.) as well as in sound design for artistic, literary, scenic and audiovisual projects.
Just like Coeval, he has edited several recordings and his compositions have been publicised in various formats and contexts. Since 2002, Juan Carlos has been a member of the CRC Digital Art Cultural Association where he has coordinated and given workshops on musical composition and phonography, and since 2003, he has organised the Sonikas festival. He is a professor in the Master’s in Electroacoustic Composition and in the Master’s in Composition for Audiovisual Media: MCAV, both at the Katarina Gurska Higher Education Institution (CSKG).
